Windows-1252 Character Table

Windows-1252 is the default single-byte encoding on Western European Windows installations. It extends ISO-8859-1 by filling the 27 undefined positions between 128 and 159 with printable characters like curly quotes, the euro sign, and typographic dashes. This overlap causes a common bug: text labeled as ISO-8859-1 that actually contains CP1252 characters (smart quotes at 147 and 148, for example) will render as garbage in strict ISO-8859-1 parsers. The HTML5 specification now treats the label "ISO-8859-1" as an alias for Windows-1252 to work around this widespread mislabeling.
