ISO-8859-1 Character Table
ISO-8859-1 (Latin-1) was published in 1987 as part of the ISO/IEC 8859 family and covers most Western European languages. It maps characters 0 through 127 identically to ASCII, then adds accented letters, currency symbols, and typographic marks at positions 160 through 255. Codes 128 through 159 are officially undefined (reserved for control functions in ISO 6429). This undefined zone is where Windows-1252 diverges by inserting curly quotes, the euro sign, and other printable characters. The HTML5 spec now aliases ISO-8859-1 to Windows-1252 because so much web content was mislabeled.
